Presenters Norman Fost, pediatrics and bioethics, and Lisa A. Wilson, university legal counsel, focus on state and federal laws and university policies for conducting research with subjects who lack the capacity or legal ability to consent on their own behalf, including children and adults. Included in this topic will be a discussion of when a surrogate decision-maker may be used, who determines lack of capacity to consent, and other practical advice for designing your protocol application
