The talk will discuss: the efforts to implement risk-informed regulation, the many difficulties in the decontamination and decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi site, the efforts to extend the licenses of existing plants to reflect the long period of shutdown, the pursuit of reprocessing of used fuel, and the challenge associated with the significant public skepticism about reliance on nuclear power.
