Description
"Social conscience, multimedia collaborator, system builder, rhapsodist, historical thinker and multicultural gateway,” is how the New York Times describes virtuoso pianist and composer Vijay Iyer, who has deservedly been named Jazz Artist of the Year fourfold by Downbeat Magazine. Inspired by Duke Ellington, Alice Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk, Iyer performs with a sound so elegant that it’s beyond improvisation, grounded in rhythmic traditions of South Asia and West Africa. The Vijay Iyer Trio has been described as “the best piano trio in jazz today” ( Der Spiegel ), bonded by hundreds of performances and a dozen years of polished music-making. Experience the melting of the piano underneath Iyer’s fingertips, in harmony with bass prodigy Daryl Johns and New York City’s Jeremy Dutton on drums. Vijay Iyer Trio | Combat Breathing
