Description
Questions surrounding the computational representation of place have been a cornerstone of GIScience since its inception. During the rise of generative AI and large language models (LLMs), it seemed for a moment that a breakthrough would be insight, but, maybe unsurprisingly, things took a different turn. This talk will report on conceptual lessons learned in designing and benchmarking autonomous artificial GIS analysts, place representation paradigms and discuss neuro-symbolic (hybrid) AI.
