This talk explores Sir Sayyid Aḥmad Ḵẖān’s al-Khut̤bāt al-Aḥmadīyah (1870) and how nineteenth-century Muslims in colonial North India reshaped the Prophet Muḥammad’s image through vernacular Urdu biographies. It highlights Sir Sayyid’s choices—writing in the UK, prioritizing English translation, and delaying the Urdu publication for two decades.
