Wednesday, May 4, 2011
Time
12-2 p.m.
Location

Description
The spectacle of punishment was central in (re)producing and maintaining the power structure of transatlantic slavery. In discussing the violence perpetrated on enslaved bodies we risk recreating and legitimizing the system that committed such acts. Recent scholarship reveals a virtual minefield, including the ideas that we should cite collective trauma itself as the basis of modern black identity.
