Materials Science Program & MRSEC Seminar

Nanoscale structuration and self-adaptation in materials systems driven by irradiation and plastic deformation

Event Details

Date
Thursday, February 19, 2015
Time
4-5 p.m.
Description
Seminar presented by Professor Pascal Bellon, MSE, UIUC. Materials are commonly subjected to external forcing, such as plastic deformation during fabrication and shaping, or irradiation during service life in nuclear reactors. While external forcing can introduce detrimental evolution of material properties, research has also shown that forcing creates opportunities for the dynamical stabilization of novel microstructures.
