Description
Few have the opportunity to see four phenomenal jazz musicians in one show, but here's your chance to see the best of the best. Chris Potter, saxophonist, Lionel Loueke, guitarist & vocalist, Eric Harland, drummer, and Dave Holland, bassist, are collaborating on a contemporary jazz show. This all-star team includes some of the most decorated and acclaimed jazz musicians in their genre.
Lionel Loueke started his jazz guitar career off at the American School of Modern Music in Paris in 1994 after leaving Africa, and then attended the Berklee College of Music where he met his future trio mates. His song Kponnon Kpété won an Independent Music Award for Best Traditional World Song in 2008 and Virgin Forest was nominated for World Fusion Album of the year.
Down Beat called Chris Potter "One of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists on the planet." He started his career as an 18-year-old prodigy in the 1980s, rising to fame next to trumpeter Red Rodney. He was nominated for a Grammy for his collaboration with Joanne Brackeen, and was featured on Steely Dan's Grammy winning album from 2000, Two Against Nature.
Owner of his own independent record label, Dave Holland has been performing and recording music for over 50 years. He taught himself how to play stringed instruments, beginning with the ukulele and graduating to the bass guitar. He played in Miles Davis' rhythm section in 1970, recording some of the most iconic jazz studio albums. He has collaborated with countless other jazz musicians, and won Grammy Awards for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album.
Renowned jazz drummer Eric Harland has taken part in numerous acclaimed jazz groups, including Dave Holland's Prism, the SFJAZZ Collective, Charles Lloyd's Quartet and James Farm with Joshua Redman. He has also been a member of McCoy Tyner's Quartet, Terence Blanchard's Quintet, and others.
