“Terraferma,” or “Dry Land” is set in a small fishing village on the island of Linosa. Twenty-year-old Filippo and his grandfather Ernesto still lead traditional lives, however their simple way of life is irrevocably changed when they encounter a boat of African immigrants in the open water of the Mediterranean. After saving and harboring a pregnant illegal immigrant, the family is torn between their moral impulse and their legal duty.
