Cineteca Film Screening - "Vergine giurata" ["Sworn Virgin"]

Bispuri’s film follows the journey of Hana, a rebellious girl (played by Alba Rohrwacher) who rejects the traditional gender role assigned to her in her small town in Albania. When threatened by local patriarchs for her insubordinate behavior, Hana must choose between becoming a wife or a “sworn virgin.” After taking the oath, Hana is assigned a new, autonomous gender role and is called Mark. When Mark moves to Italy, he begins to rediscover a part of himself cast aside for decades: Hana.
