Focused Ultrasound Histotripsy: The evolution of local tumor ablation

By Tim Ziemlewicz - Associate Professor of Radiology, University of Wisconsin Madison

Description
Histotripsy is a focused ultrasound technique that utilizes cavitation of endogenous gas within tissue to mechanically destroy targeted tissue. Due to the mechanical nature of target tissue destruction, histotripsy can spare damage to critical structures when performing local tumor ablation. When combined with the non-invasive nature of energy delivery, histotripsy has the potential to be a leading local treatment modality in the future.
