Join the Machine Learning Marathon (MLM23)! Register by 10/16

The ML+X Community is thrilled to announce the 2023 Machine Learning Marathon (MLM23), and we invite you to be a part of this exciting event! Whether you're a seasoned machine learning (ML) practitioner or just starting your journey, this event promises a unique opportunity to learn, collaborate, and make meaningful contributions to exciting ML projects. 

How to Participate: Participants will form teams of 3-5 members and choose an ML challenge of their choice (see registration form for options). Teams will have 7-8 weeks to work together, leveraging compute resources provided by Kaggle. Each team member is expected to contribute at least 1 hour per week. Some challenges offer global recognition and prizes for top-performing teams. Locally, the ML+X team with the highest leaderboard ranking across all challenges may receive a $250 award ($50 gift card per team member)! 

Join as an ML Advisor: ML experts — this is your chance to pass on your wisdom! We are looking for volunteers to guide and support project teams throughout the marathon. Advisors will be expected to check in with their selected team at least once every two weeks.

Important Dates

• 10/9-10/16: Registration opens on 10/9 and closes on 10/16. Fill out the registration form to select your preferred project (to participate in or advise).
• 10/11, 9-11am (rm. 1145, Discovery): Attend ML+Coffee to get answers to your questions about the marathon and project selection.
• 10/17: Project teams announced.
• 10/18, 6-8pm (rm. 1240, CS): Meet your team members and kick off project co-working.
• 11/1, 6-8pm (TBA): Join us for an in-person co-working event.
• 11/8, 9-11am (rm. 1145, Discovery): Optionally attend ML+Coffee for additional co-working opportunities and advice.
• 11/16, 6-8pm (TBA): Another in-person co-working event awaits.
• 12/X:Project submissions are due (exact date depends on which project you choose).
• 12/13: We'll announce the winning team!
• February: Teams will have the chance to present their methods to the community. Date and time will be determined based on team availability.
