In order to create a focus on student-centered practices in the University of Georgia's Gen Ed curriculum, we transformed our enormous (>350 student/each) sections of introductory biology to include a projects-based applied learning approach, which we have named PAL. Using this approach, students engage in investigations of controversial problems.
