Description
USA | 92 min | PG | 35 mm | Dir. John Waters
It's 1963 in Baltimore and Traci Turnblad, a 16 year old, overweight, girl has just one thing on her mind: Dancing. Obsessed with the weekly teen dance program The Corny Collins Show, she eventually lands a spot on the show, causing massive controversy because of her appearance. Soon, Traci, her best friend Penny, and her parents (Divine and Jerry Stiller) have their lives thrown into chaos, as they must face and overcome repressive social norms, all under the backdrop of the burgeoning civil rights movement. Although in a far more family friendly mode than his previous films, director John Waters gives this subversive comedy classic a raw, personal, edge that may make it his crowning achievement.
