Join us at Afternoon Conversation Series (ACS) for an interesting conversation! ACS is a facilitated weekly experience put on by WUD Global Connections where you can engage in friendly conversations over different interactive themes presented each week. This week our topic of discussion will be "Meninism 101: Society's expectations of men.“As The Guardian reports, body image concerns many more men than it does women. Eating Disorders continuously go underreported in males. From not playing with dolls to “boys don’t cry”, our cultures have innately pushed an idealized image of masculinity in us. Does our society push men to conform to one particular version? What about issues such as disproportionate prison sentences and rates of homelessness? Can men be victims of domestic violence? Is our society biased in our laws of fathers rights and divorce issues for men?Join us in the conversation with Prof. David Melter, as we explore what "meninism" really is.Come and join us for a relaxing Friday afternoon and make new friends. FREE Refreshments are served on a first-come, first-served basis each week—come early to ensure your treat! Our events are open to UW students, faculty and staff as well as Union members and their guests.
