Description
Join us at Afternoon Conversation Series (ACS) for an interesting conversation! ACS is a facilitated weekly experience put on by WUD Global Connections where you can engage in friendly conversations over different interactive themes presented each week. This week our topic of discussion will be "Flirting with UBI"With the inequality of wealth rising greater than ever and economic growth largely driven by technology, paternalism and economic coercion continuing to burden those seeking financial security, Universal Basic Income (UBI) will exist for everyone regardless of what they do with their lives. Yet, opponents have pointed out that such a generous act of global humanism would be costly to replace what's already there. What are the consequences of allowing recipients the freedom to spend? Can UBI improve or reduce the incentive to work? What about its implications on society such as immigration, education, birth rates, equal pay and entrepreneurship? Join us in conversation with Prof. Erik Olin Wright as we explore the this interesting topic.Come and join us for a relaxing Friday afternoon and make new friends. FREE Refreshments are served on a first-come, first-served basis each week—come early to ensure your treat! Our events are open to UW students, faculty and staff as well as Union members and their guests.
