Description
The Nick Moran Trio is an exciting, high-energy, funk and jazz organ trio from Brooklyn, N.Y. “Superb!” says Bob Morello in the Boston Post Gazette of their latest release No Time Like Now. Featuring organist Brad Whiteley and drummer Chris Benham, the band combines its love of organ greats such as Lonnie Smith and Larry Young with original song forms and James Brown-style funk, all fueled by Moran’s burning guitar lines and percussive rhythm playing. Their new CD is a tour de force of cohesive ensemble expression and eclectic compositions.New York native Nick Moran grew up on the city’s lower east side listening to the iconic rock and blues guitarists. A protégé student of the great Ron Carter, he brings his love of players like Jeff Beck and Robben Ford to the jazz setting, playing venues such as the Brooklyn Museum, the New York Bahá'í Center and the Bar Next Door. An ultra-busy sideman, Brad Whiteley is always playing organ. He has performed at many notable clubs including Smoke, Birdland, Smalls and Joe’s Pub, and toured nationally. Moving to Brooklyn in 2003, Chris Benham has become a first-call drummer among bandleaders and can regularly be seen at the Zinc Bar, the Kitano, the 55 Bar and on many other prominent New York bandstands.
