Cyanobacteria, commonly known as "blue-green algae," can close our beaches, damage the lake ecosystem, and even release dangerous toxins into the water. It can be all sorts of colors - blue, green, red, brown and sometimes with an irridescent sheen - and even look like floating globs or cut grass in the water.
