Transits and life

Event Details

Tuesday, November 12, 2019
12:05-1 p.m.
Jaime Cordova, UW Department of Genetics, will discuss the transit of Mercury that occurred on November 11, 2019, visible from Madison at sunrise (6:44AM) shortly after the start of the transit, the last transit of an inner planet until 2032. Transits are used frequently outside of our solar system in the search for exoplanets, places where life may exist. He will focus on the science behind transits, the search for exoplanets, and the search for life beyond Earth.
