Research into Solar Geoengineering Approaches to Cool Earth: A Dangerous Distraction or an Idea Whose Time Has Come?

Event Details

Date
Thursday, September 30, 2021
Time
4:15-5:15 p.m.
Location
Description
Dr. Peter Frumhoff (Union of Concerned Scientists) discusses how even greatly accelerated efforts to reduce emissions may not be enough to limit severe climate disruption. This has prompted prominent calls for expanded research into proposed solar geoengineering technologies to cool Earth by reflecting incoming sunlight back to space. These technologies have potential to limit warming but also pose large global-scale risks and uncertainties.
