"Health Inequities, Embodied Sovereignty, and the Politics of COVID Management in the French Caribbean" By Dr. Raphaëlle Rabanes, Assistant Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology at the University of Washington Seattle
Monday, February 20, 2023
In this presentation, I reflect on the articulation between opinions on the vaccine and notions of freedom, bodily autonomy, and sovereignty in a postcolonial context. I also examine how debates about health governance have led to an increased opposition between the categories of biomedicine and natural remedies. Finally, I reflect on the tensions between marronage and integration a non-sovereign context.
