This presentation examines new evidence of socio-political and economic complexity at the Early Bronze Age site of Tell el-Hesi, Israel (28th century BCE) based on recent collaborative studies of incised bone tool production and design. The wider implications of the role of Tel el-Hesi in the production of bone tubes and their trade in the Eastern Mediterranean will be discussed.
