Processes Governing the Evolution of Moist Static Energy in African Easterly Waves

Event Details

Date
Wednesday, March 22, 2023
Time
12-1 p.m.
Description
It is well known that African easterly waves (AEWs) occasionally develop into tropical cyclones. However, the processes leading to development are not well understood. To this end, we examine a 38-yr climatology of AEW tracks to understand the differences between developers (DAEWs) and non-developers (NDAEWs). Regional composites over the 40°W-20°E domain are constructed as well as wave-centered composites for tracks in the eastern Atlantic (EA; 40°W-10°W) and west African monsoon regions...
