The Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) describes a pattern of downward-propagating stratospheric winds which alternate directions between easterly and westerly. Many recent studies have explored the possible links between the QBO and other climate phenomena, such as the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) and the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO).
