Master's Defense: Investigating the PREFIRE intersections

Event Details

Date
Wednesday, December 13, 2023
Time
12-1 p.m.
Description
In polar regions, thermal emissions at wavelengths between 15 and 100 μm dominate outgoing longwave radiation, peaking at over 60% in Antarctica during austral winter. Much of the polar energy budget can therefore be characterized by emissions within this spectral range, which is taken to be the far-infrared (FIR). The Polar Radiant Energy in the Far-InfraRed Experiment (PREFIRE) will pioneer global moderate-resolution FIR measurements from space by leveraging nascent satellite technology.
