Description
O Cangaceiro -- about a bandit who falls for the school teacher he kidnaps -- was Vera Cruz’s only box office blockbuster. Comparable to a Hollywood Western but with interesting and tragic deviations, the film was a two-time winner at the Cannes Film Festival in 1953 (International Prize for the director Barreto and Special Mention for the outstanding score).
