Joseph McBride, San Francisco State University, is the author of many books on film directors, including What Ever Happened to Orson Welles: A Portrait of an Independent Career; Searching for John Ford; Steven Spielberg: A Biography; Frank Capra: The Catastrophe of Success; and Hawks on Hawks. This evening, he speaks about the ways biographical research can inform our understanding of films.
