Description
Professor Till van Rahden, Universite de Montreal. At a time when some argue that universalism is just as dangerous as ethnocentrism, political leaders are dismissing multiculturalism as a failed experiment, and fantasies of purity are on the rise, this talk draws attention to the way people conceptualize the relationship between the particular and the universal. It examines how German Jews attempted to substantiate a right to be different in an age of nationalism.
