Description
Father Athanasius Kircher--polymath who wrote on topics from music to micro-organisms--was an international celebrity of the 17th century. Our concert has music Kircher praised in his monumental music encyclopedia "Musurgia Universalis" (1650) and others he might have heard. Music by Lasso, Palestrina, Morales, Kapsperger; featuring "Historia di Jephte" by Carissimi. Pre-concert lecture 7:15 p.m. by Florence Hsia, history of science department and Integrated Liberal Studies Program.
