Description
Presented by Meghan Matthews, M.S., CF-SLP, Language Processes Lab, Waisman Center. According to the Simple View of Reading (Gough & Tunmer, 1986; Hoover & Gough, 1990), reading is comprised of two components: decoding (the ability to read the words) and comprehension (the ability to understand what is read). It seems that many children on the autism spectrum demonstrate a discrepant profile where their decoding is far better than their reading comprehension.
