Description
Manga has been attracting attention as a medium of subcultural communities, closely related to investigations of globalization. Manga invites participation: readers empathize with characters, get immersed in story worlds, create fan art, form affective communities, and engage in cosplay. The triple disasters of March 11, 2011, and its aftermath—what the Japanese refer to as “3-11”— rekindle questions about manga’s role in Japanese society at large.
