Oceans, Climate, and Human Health: Scientific Understanding of the Direct Relationship Between Human Disease and the Environment

Event Details

Date
Friday, April 20, 2012
Time
4 p.m.
Description
Rita Colwell is a distinguished professor at the University of Maryland and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, and a U.S. Science Envoy. Dr. Colwell, who was the first woman to direct the NSF, will discuss the failure of current political arguments about climate change to focus on the association of human disease, notably cholera epidemics, and the natural environment, as evidence is now convincing that many human diseases are linked to climate, weather, and environmental conditions.
