Description
This talk addresses the role that English-language writers (both in and outside of Israel) have played in bringing Israeli literature in Hebrew onto the international stage. As was true for poet Yehuda Amichai’s early translators, translation has allowed many Israeli poets working in languages other than Hebrew to negotiate, and even challenge, their marginal status within Israeli literature, while it bolstered Amichai’s international status as Israel’s national poet.
