The Nelson Institute namesake, U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, was the founder of Earth Day and also served as governor of the state of Wisconsin. Come see where Earth Day began and have your picture taken sitting behind...his desk! The desk was used for 40+ years and was where Earth Day legislation was drafted, the Apostle Islands were protected and DDT was banned!
