Description
Pauline Jones Luong, Univeristy of Michigan. Two distinct views have emerged of the nature and impact of the “Islamic revival” in Central Asia since the 1990s. The dominant view is that a strong resurgence has taken place, while more recent research directly challenges the notion that resurgence has occurred. This lecture will attempt to reconcile these two views demonstrating the degree to which Central Asians have embraced their Islamic heritage and its effect on their political behavior.
