The Universe Needs Feedback: Problems with the Cosmic Fuel Supply

Event Details

Time
7-8 p.m.
Location
2300 S. Park Street
Description
We live in a universe where only 5% of the mass-energy is normal matter (the remainder is attributed to dark matter and dark energy). Furthermore, stars and planets account for only 5% of what's left, much less than theory predicts. Why are stars and planets so relatively rare? Aleks Diamond-Stanic, UW-Madison Astronomy Department, will describe how the key might be "feedback" on a colossal scale.
