An Altered View of Aztalan

Domestic Architecture, Palisade Replacement, and Unpublished Field Maps from the 1960s

Event Details

Date
Thursday, April 9, 2015
Time
7 p.m.
Location
Wisconsin Historical Society (across from the Memorial Union)
Description
Jake Pfaffenroth of the UW-Madison presents research that uses unpublished field maps from past excavations to suggest that the ancient village of Aztalan was a hybridized community in which its Mississippian and Late Woodland residents were equally influenced by each other. From this perspective, describing Aztalan as a Mississippian village only tells part of the story.
