Prof. David Poerschke, Materials Dept., UCSB. Gas turbine technology is undergoing major transitions, with demands for increased engine performance and fuel flexibility. These advances imply material temperatures up to 1500ºC, requiring improved thermal and environmental barrier coatings (T/EBCs) to protect structural components from increasingly aggressive chemical environments in the hot gas path.
