“The First Hunters of Olduvai Gorge: A Look at the Behavioral and Physical Adaptations of Homo naledi” by Alia Gurtov

Event Details

Date
Wednesday, November 18, 2015
Time
7 p.m.
Description
With the discovery of Homo naledi, paleoanthropologists are reevaluating what distinguishes the earliest members of our own genus from those who came before. Gurtov uses both behavior & morphology in examining the hominin fossil record of Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, to explore the foraging adaptations of some of the earliest human meat-eaters in Pleistocene East Africa. Informing this research are the adaptations of Homo naledi, which show us that there are many ways to belong to the genus Homo.
