Linguistics in the World of Big Data

In recent years, there has been growing interest in the field of linguistics to work with increasingly larger data sets. These data sets open new opportunities for linguistic as well as engineering research, opportunities that call for a collaboration between the two fields. The talk by Roxana Girju will discuss some successes as well as challenges of big data for both linguistics and computational linguistics from two major projects at the University of Illinois on Deep Semantics for Big Data.
