Description
Nitrates are a widespread groundwater contaminant in Wisconsin: 10% of rural residential wells exceed a suitable level of nitrates in drinking water. Masarik will describe how they end up in groundwater, talk about the resulting health & environmental concerns, investigate if groundwater is getting better or worse with respect to nitrates, & show why some areas are more prone to groundwater contamination. Lastly, he will examine short- and long-term strategies for addressing nitrate concerns.
