Description
The High resolution Infrared Radiation Sounder (HIRS) has been flown on 16 satellites since 1978. Sensor to sensor radiance calibration differences have been mitigated using high spectral resolution infrared data from the Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI). Long term detection of high clouds and estimation of total column moisture reveal overall constancy with smooth hemispheric transitions from seasonal minima and maxima.
