While the United States is a wealthy nation overall, many households live in extreme poverty. However, there has been less focus on the lower end of the wealth distribution as compared with studies that explore the characteristics of wealthy households. This study explores the characteristics of the poorest poor in America using the Survey of Consumer Finances as a starting point.
