Generative AI From Multiple Perspectives
ML+X: Machine Learning Beyond Traditional CS Fields
Event Details
Join the ML+X community on Tuesday, May 6th, 12-1pm CT in the Orchard View room of the Discovery Building for presentations and discussion on “Generative AI from multiple perspectives”. Presenters will include Benjamin Lengerich and Kaiser Pister who represent research, teaching, and business perspectives on generative AI. Register by May 2nd (lunch provided) to guarantee your lunch ticket and join the discussion!
- Benjamin Lengerich's research focuses on machine learning, AI, and generative AI with applications in biostatistics, medical informatics, and computational biology in his home department of Statistics. He develops context-adaptive AI to uncover disease mechanisms, improve healthcare predictions, and guide medical decision-making. His work connects statistical models with foundation models to transform data-driven insights into actionable healthcare solutions.
- Kaiser Pister is a lecturer in the Computer Science Department at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he focuses on applied natural language processing and the integration of large language models (LLMs) in education. He has designed and taught courses such as CS 638: Large Language Models in Industry, providing students with hands-on experience in developing state-of-the-art NLP techniques. With a background that includes founding three companies—one acquired, one ongoing, and one unsuccessful—Pister brings valuable business experience to his academic role.
