Description
Englishman Thomas Coryat (ca.1577-1617), from the tiny Somerset village of Odcombe, was not the first tourist, but he is one of the first truly engaging travel writers in the English language. His Coryat’s Crudities was an entertaining account of his 1608 grand tour of Western Europe, through France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. His travels and musical observations provide the frame for this year’s All-Festival program.
